osf Window operation - Rain....
Hi all, I'm having window issues, the car is a 2001 406 estate - The driver's window (operation) is exceptionally intermittent. The electric switch makes its way to the window about 5% of the time. I press for the window to go up and it has its own mind and goes down...Not much fun when it is raining and the damned thing is stuck down (It definitely gets worse when at the bottom). I thought I would source the right part from a scrap yard. Anyone know what part or black box I need to get and then fit.

Welcome Bruce!
Just a thought, does the window go up if you assist it?
It may be binding in the runners and auto-reversing, or the motor is on its way out.

Try chucking some silicone grease along the edge of the window frame then raise/lower the window a few times
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Or there's an intermittant somewhere, which will also make the window auto shut-off reset itself all the time.

I have tried the silicon grease. It did not work, so I have sourced a window motor and now await a Hayes manual before fitting.

Could it not be the switch at fault? swap them around and try?
