Knackered stereo?

My CD/Radio in my 2000, 406 is on the blink i think, keeps failing to play cds and keeps on ejecting them, will eventually play after say 10 attempts or so,ive had cd cleaners in but no joy, also the radio stations i pre-set , some of them have gone, and it has stored some station it prefers of its own, and once the volume decided to turn itsself up, without me touching it, strange or wot?


So is it knackered?, i was maybe thinking of gettin a new after market one after xmas, one that will connect to the audio stalk on the steering coloum.

Oops! You could try cleaning the lense with alcohol (involves taking it apart) but it's all the other stuff that's going wrong, it sounds like it's something more serious. It could be a connector I suppose

ive had a cd cleaner in it twice, doesnt that clean the lens? might just get a new aftermarket cd player in Jan sales! i want a cd player that plays cds from the minute i leave my drive, not when im almost at work lol.

I think they use tiny brushes to lift the dust off, won't work if it's coated in fag tar or mud. Go on, ims or alcohol, cotton bud: if it works brilliant, if it doesn't it's dustbin time.

Well ive taken the original out and fitted a Pioneer head unit, which i love to bits, i just need to get the steering stalk adaptor, then i can use that.

Ive also noticed i can get out the car and lock it, and the cd player keeps playing for a min or so then stops, then when i unlock the car it starts playing again. Haha

Im impressed!
