TV show uses two D8's as 'bangers'

Was watching Virgin+1+1 on Sky last night and "Britains worst learners" was on.

They used a very tidy looking D8 petrol in China Blue and another in Diablo Red for these idiots to "drive"

Well, these poor things got mashed to bits in the show being bounced off every obstacle and even 'stabbed' by spikes fitted to the front of an old Limo being used as "markers"

Was a shame to see our 406's abused in such a way I suppose they were cheap enough for the show to buy (and more reliable thn a Ford or Vauxhall of the same era).

One funny thing was a Woman getting *really* stressed out at stallng the engine so many times but I thought "hang on, that'll be the stepper motor or idle speed control valve playing up"

Anyone else seen this?

They're serial 406 abusers - usually at least 2 a week get written off. I just look at it and cry over the amount of perfectly good D8 components they're taking out of circulation

Yeah I saw that TV show and when I saw the d8's I was like Then when I saw what they were doing with them I was like But then I popped in the good old Ronin DVD and I was like That's a D8 being used! If you havent seen Ronin, watch it!

I don't see a problem, Welton. They're only using manky old D8s that no one with any taste would want, an thus increasing the value of the remai ning D9s! ;)

Ahem, I wouldn't worry about it, film companies destroy finer and rarer cars than 406s. The Italian Job springs to mind...

The estate has firmer rear springs to cope with the extra weight it might be required to haul, and as a result doesn't roll as much as the saloon. I personally think it handles better than the saloon, yes it's still a bit tail happy but that's more of a pug trait (anyone ever drive a 306 in anger ). I know understeer is supposed to be safer, but oversteer is more fun!

@Officer Turbolag - You used to love your 406 and you were a regular contributor to the forum with knowledgeable stuff and generally being nice and helpfull but you seem to be ribbing us all now in our old "snotters" etc.

Most of us would love a shiney new car but the simple matter is...we can't afford anything else, times are hard, some of our jobs are at risk, so we make do with what we have and we all come on here for help and chat about our cars because that's what we want to do and it saves a lot of money sometimes when we help each other to keep our cars running well.

The 406's handling is outdated now but the design was conceived over 13 years ago so it's bound to be really

I loved my 406s, and still love them, but unlike some I've never taken the bait and fallen into thinking they were the best, fastest, best value etc etc.

I loved them despite their flaws, not because of them. Were they still making them I'd have another one tomorrow without hesitation.

I don't think they're the best, not by a long way, but they are a damn good all rounder. It's become the benchmark by which I judge every other "potential next car" that even flashes accross my mind. And the thing is that for whatever reason(s) very few stack up, be it ride, looks, cost, economy, servicing, size, spec... whatever. That's not to say the 406 isn't deficient in a few areas, it clearly is! I did consider changing it in the summer, but every car I looked would have been a compromise in some way or another. Loads of cars beat it in one or two areas but for my money (and budget actually) I've yet to find one that trumps the whole package

That's exacly the point, the "flaws" such that they are provide a bit of character that so many modern cars are completely devoid of. I too would happily have another one, but it'd have to have more toys than mine
