Service Indicator?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Service Indicator?

Post by Doggy »

As I was backing out of the garage yesterday, I thought noticed the service indicator on 8000, it stuck in my mind, probably because it's a round number.
Later on, while returning home with the darling little doggies, it was defineltly on 8000. (Maybe I was wrong earlier).
Just nipped out for some rolls, (DIY non-generic dead pig sarnies for lunch), and guess what? - Service indicator on 8000 :!:
Same again on the way home :?
Now I'm sure it was on 11,500 ish when I got it & I,ve done about 3000 since then.
Mileage recorder works OK, trip recorder too.

Guess my next move is resetting it & seeing what happens from there.

Anybody else seen something similar :?:

Its a funny bit of kit and you get used to ignoring it after a while.

It appears to count down in 150's, 250's I don't know really it's all bollox.....get to 12months though and it wipes the slate clean :)

Ah I see what you mean... It's showing 7950 now

Doh! I assumed it behave like the others I've seen, which simply count down from 12,500, (Xsara) or 6,000, (306), a mile at a time.

Feel a bit of a spanner now

Not experienced the oil level gubbins, but my previous Citreon had a low oil level warning light that mostly worked OK, but seemed very sensitive to slopes and would often show low if you stopped & re-started it before it had warmed up.

Hi, guys,

Speaking of the service indicator, I can't say I've noticed any problems with its countdown on my 2001 GTX, but can anyone please tell me how you reset it when you've got a model with the remote control for the sat-nav?

There's a section in my handbook (p132) covering this reset but it refers to holding down 'button 1' which appears to be next to 'Display B' (i.e. the main display screen)! I don't have any buttons next to my 'Display B', I have the remote and there doesn't seem to be this reset anywhere on the menus.

I want to do my own servicing and be able to reset this counter when the time comes (it's on 16,100 at the moment) so any ideas would be gratefully received :?

Thanks a lot.

Regards,

Dave

With the ignition key in the off position, press & hold the button to reset the trip counter. Whilst keeping it pressed, turn on the ignition & watch the display - should eventually set itself back to 12,500 or whatever the correct interval is. 8)

(I haven't tried this on my 406 yet, but it worked on previous Pugs & Citroens)

Hi, Dogslife,

Just wanted to let you know that I did the first service on my GTX today and tried your method of resetting the service indicator.

I'm happy to say it worked and set itself back to 18,750.

Thanks very much again for your help!

Best regards,

I service my car every 6k so i don't use the service indicator. It would be good if you could set it to whatever interval you want.
