2.1 GLXDT Intermittent missfire & mystery fault codes

Post by peugeot »

My 1998 2.1 GLXDT has an intermittent missfire. The problem seems to occur mostly when cruising at a steady speed - the engine management light will come on and simultaneously the engine will die, sometimes only for less than a second before it recovers, otherwise it will recover after as long as it takes me to move the throttle very slightly either way. This occurs randomly although it does seem to happen more frequently when cruising at about 50mph after deccelerating from cruising at about 80mph. A friend connected his non-peugeot diagnostic equipment and it returned two fault codes; C21A0 & C2528 which he did not recognise. I had a peugeot dealer connect the latest peugeot diagnostic equipment and it returned even less information - something similar to 'The ECU did not respond'. Anybody got a clue?

What's the engine earth like?
406 estate, 2.1TD, I fixed her, then part exchanged her for a Mercedes E300TD Avantgarde Estate.
Hmmmm, straight 6 goodness!

Continuity from battery earth to all the earth connections on the engine and ECU is good - waggling all the cables does not affect this

I notice a few people with HDi's have cleaned or changed the crank sensor and / or cam sensor.
Does anyone know if the 1998 2.1 GLXDT has these sensors, and where they are located?

The crank sensor is on the top of the clutch housing, I don't think it has a cam sensor. I'm sorry, I can't think of anything to suggest, I don't want you to end up changing the whole engine management system one component at a time...

Maybe take it to a real engine management specialist, it could be the tech at Peugeot forgot to plug the latest peugeot diagnostic equipment in.

Hey,

Was this ever sorted out? I have a similar problem (2.1dt) of it surging and lagging when under slight load and going on a str8 road (when u can feel it most) im still at a loss to what it is.

Does it occasionally sound like a tank?
