Wobbling feel when car stationary and idle

Post by adam03031980 »

When me car is stationary and at idle i can feel a slight wobble or jerk when i am sitting in it, i have had 2 possible reasons someone said lower engine mount or missing it is not all the time that this happens and can do it when hot or cold anyone got any ideas or is this another one of those normal HDI things to make you paranoid, by the way the car is a 406 110 hdi

Wobbling sounds like an injector to me but then I'm not sure about this jerking - does the engine wobble about all over the place when idling or does it shift a whole load when you rev it?

It is only slight wobble or jerk when idling well i say jerk more wobble but is only at idle i havent looked at the engine itself so am not sure how much it moves but the wobble is not consistent and only does it now an again say every other time i use the car

Sounds like it's having the occasional miss. I reckon you should have a leak off test done. I'm not sure if just bunging some injector cleaner in there is a good idea, anyone?

Thinking about it I think mine used to feel a bit wobbly at idle but now the engine mounts been done I don't think it's done it since.

There's a real easy test for the engine mount - blip the throttle and if the engine lurches forward just one bit then the mount's shot! mine moves not one little bit now

The other thing can be an out of balance DMF just before it....err....I think we'll go for the mount first :)

By that reasoning, my engine mounts are non-existent ;)

I've got to admit it did feel good the first time I blipped the throttle in the V6 and felt the car rock... Not quite to big V8 muscle car standards, but hey... It does twist quite a bit within the mounts though, but this would almost certainly be down to the bottom mount, which ain't going to get changed

I think he means the car stays still and the engine moves, rather than the engine moves the whole car and small children run off screaming :cheesy:

supafrisk wrote:My car also "wobbles".
Usually when I've been idling for more than 5 minutes, it actually feels like it's just shook itself, like a dog would after getting wet
I've also noticed the engine revs change and the engine sounds louder, more throatier, if that makes sense :supafrisk:
If I knock it off and restart it, it goes back to normal for five minutes, then shakes itself again
I did start off thinking engine miss, but am wondering if the louder noise could be the bottom pulley :supafrisk:

BTW car is flying like a rocket at the mo, we've only had one flattish spot which lasted for about 2 miles then we went back to warp factor 10 8) :cheesy:
Pleased to hear it supa :cheesy: :cheesy: what have your done to the pug then?

Hope it isnt the DMF would rather the lower engine mount, if it is a DMF will just replace it with a solid valeo flywheel. the lower engine mount could also be the problem that i am having with the odd crunch in 3rd gear though that is probably just wishing.

wynnes do a really good one too
i've always put a whole bottle into a nearly empty tank then done 25-50 miles and topped it up got told to do that by an stp rep about 9 years ago the reasoning behind this was it gives a concentrated burst of cleaner then goes back to the usual recommended dosage
