I bought a HDI d9 406 a while ago and have been driving it about s a run around... I dont know too much about the HDI's and what i was wondering is this...
The engine management light has came on... Could this be a big fix?? What is the options?
Also there is diesel leaking out of the car somewhere and i dont know where this might be... Theres a little puddle that sits on the head, im assuming an injector or something? Is this a common fault in them? Any ideas?
Would it be better if i got these things sorted out asap?? Because money is tight at the minute!! Awww students
Engine light is most commonly the throttle position sensor and can be nursed along for ages if you want.
Generally if it's driving alright then leave it IMO.
Diesel leak might be oil actually from the rocker cover breather. If it's diesel fuel it could be the spill off/return lines on the injectors or a leaky rail pressure sensor but DO NOT fiddle with the solid pipes/unions (high pressure).
My engine stinks of Diesel specially if driven hard but I can't seem to find an obvious leak.

Well it loses a good lot of diesel, i could leave it a few hours and then see a trickle of diesel on the ground. It seems to be worse when driven for a while and then left. Any ideas?
Thats a good thing about the light... Im not a fan of strange lights popping up on the dash lol

I was wondering about that, if the injectors have been disturbed at some point the pipes are meant to be changed too, not that people bother... The leak-off pipes look a lot different on the HDi so I'm not sure if they suffer the same problems.
What you really need to do is clean off as much as you can, then run it and see if you can spot where it's coming from.
What he needs to do is get it fixed, pronto. The pressure in the HDi fuel system is immense and easily capable of severing a finger or punching a hole in a piston just with fuel pressure alone. Any fuel system fault on the high pressure side, even if it's just suspected, should be examined immediately by someone with knowledge of these set ups.
Why risk your own health poking about, or risk a failure that would write the car off?

When I had a diesel leak causing it to sit on top of the engine and on the covers on the underside of the car before falling on the floor I found that 1 of the unions on my fuel rail was slightly loose. I tightened it up with a spanner and touch wood it has been for ever since [runs outside and hugs the biggest tree in the street]
Its probably in a really annoying place. When I first took it to a garage they couldnt find where it was leaking, even with the engine running for 2 hours at different engine speeds. They told me to go away and after every journey to open up and see where there was a puddle starting to form. This started near the injector close to the ECU. I feel it may have been knocked or loosened when I had the fuel pressure switch changed.
If the ECU light is on, then putting it on a machine may shed some light, but usually arent cheap to do.
I had a similar leak. mine was the fuel inlet to the rail. the nut on the compression fitting had backed off. I gave it 1/8th of a turn and for 2 years and 70,000 miles have gad no problem.
if you are nipping up the high pressure lines, tread carefully. it is very easy to over stress the lines and shear. Always do this with the engine stopped.
