help speedo

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

help speedo

Post by dantae »

hi all i have a 1996 2.0 turbo excutive, the speedo plays up now and again, when it does it just drops to 0 and then jumps with a clicking sound, i have read the threads saying it could be the box behind the glove box, and dry solder joints, or the sender on the gearbox, and also the speedo cable its self if fitted,so any help would be appreceated, also any photos of the joints that need slodering, also can any one tell me what the diffarence is between a d8 and a d9 , thanks

Hi Dantae

To be honest I re-ran every joint on the instrument cluster; there were no obvious dry joints but re-doing the entire lot did cure the fault.
D8/D9 is froggy speak for Mk1/Mk2! Obvious difference is the D8's have a front grill that looks like venetian blinds, & D9's have a honeycomb grill.

Fingers crossed Phil!
Oh I forgot to mention; you know the pronged metal strip that secures the flat cable to that riser board? I also squashed the prongs in to give better contact.
