I went to get window tinting priced there one day... All logos they seem to do for free, i priced all windos including 16" sunstrip on front window... i gt quoted £168 with one guy and £160 with another. Its usually around £25 for a sunstrip so you could deduct that.

Tints look great when all the windows are tinted to the same smoke... Im thinkin light - medium smoke all around... its taking a risk these days though dont you think? lol

Here is the law:

Motor Vehicles first used before 1 April 1985:
The windscreen and front side windows must allow at least 70% of light to be transmitted through them.

Motor Vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1985:
The light transmitted through the windscreen must be at least 75%.
The front side windows must allow at least 70% of light to be transmitted through them.

Most cars will come from the manufacturer slightly tinted and if any aftermarket tints are applied then there will be less than 70% of the light transmitted. The back windows can be tinted legally as dark as you want so if you wanted you could get the black hammerite out!

There is some machine that the police have called a tintmaster which can measure light transmitted. And in some cases it will be pretty obvious that the windows are tinted to the cop.
Well a FPN of 3points and a fine can be issued, but its unlikely that most cops will hand it out for something so minor. Would be more likely with darker tints on the front windows though. At the minute over here there is a big crackdown!

Bear in mind that as standard most modern cars front windows only just pass the test (typically 12 to 20%), so even the lightest aftermarket tint is all but guaranteed to push you over.

One of my favourite tickets is the excessive window tint! It's surprising how many people (ie, just about all) claim they 'didnt know'...

A friend of mine does tinting professionaly and he recommended just get a UV tint done on a car. It doesnt reduce what you already have with the manufacturers tint amount, it just reduces the amount of UV getting into the car.

I can get sunburnt on cloudy days if I don't apply SPF50 every hour, yet I've never been burnt inside a car. This is because every (or at last almost every) car on the road today has UV filtration in the glass. Fair play to your "friend" for recommending it, nice little earner for something that doesn't actually do anything...

Coppers are getting very tight on window tints nowadays, and if you get into a crash with illegal tints, you're pretty much automatically at fault and likely also uninsured due to not driving a roadworthy vehicle.

That is just rediculous as MJB has already said... i had 30% transmitting tints on my car and i could see out of them with no problems but its pretty hard at night, i had to take them off for the MOT though. Never bothered getting them redone as that was when the cops started to clamp down on this kinda thing.
If you have an accident with dark tints then you dont have a leg to stand on.

Well, a plus point is that people cant see who im transporting rather than how many i am transporting

The only idiot here is you. I hope you live in an area they film Road Wars in; I'd love to watch as they tear you a new one. I just feel sorry for the pedestrians or cyclists about at night when you run them over because you can't see them through those dickhead tints
