Power steering leak

Post by Kyle406 »

Hi all

i am new to the 406 Owners club.

i rencenlty bought a 1999 406 and have discovered the power steering has a leak. I have looked and the resevoir seems to be fine as does the pipe that goes to the pump. i can see fluid on the the on the wheel arch near the resevoir but i cant see any holes. does anyone know if this is a common issue.

any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Hi there, welcome aboard. I don't know what you've got but on mine the clip on the bottom pipe had gone loose and ps fluid was pouring out and running along the inner wing and dripping off the chassis rail below the ecu. I cut it off carefully and replaced it with a jubilee clip.

Hi.

Had this on mine. The pipe that runs from the resevior to the pump is mostly metal with a bit of flexible as well. it was the lower joint between the flexible and the metal. Tried jubilee clips which reduced the leak, but I ended replacing the pipe. About £35is squid. Not too difficult once you take out the headlight.

Regards,

Richard.

Yep, same thing is happening to mine, I spotted it yesterday. It's where the rubber hose goes into the top of the pump; trip to halfords (again  )

Hi all

thats great. i will check this out tommorow but it sounds like mine is doing the same thing - leaking on the right hand side wing and then dripping to the ground. the leak is not too bad but i need to fix it before it damages the pump.

thanks so much for all the help.
