Auxillary input?

Post by gtijon »

Is there a way of wiring an auxillary input to the Clarion headunit in my D9 406? It's the kind with a sat nav cd in the boot. All I want to do is plug an MP3 player or phone into the thing. Controlling it from the head unit like a CD changer isn't important.

I think you can "cut" into the cd changer wire and use that, but you need to do something so that you can switch between cd changer and MP3/sat nav.

pretty certain someone on here did it but was long time along so thread may have gone when we got hacked.

I asked a similar question to a shop on eBay which makes and sells adaptor cables which allow the CD-changer socket on the head unit to become an Aux input instead. He said no way can it be done on my headunit, which is a shame. SOMEBODY must know how it can be done.

ok there is a company called connects 2 who make an adaptor for the 406 clarion vdo unit
the part number is CTVPGX010
but and it's a big but this is designed to go in place of the changer it plugs in and gives you a 3.5mm jack plug to use but you loose the changer

hope this helps

Hi all, I have finally tried the Connects 2 adaptor thingy.
I decided to ask No.1 wife for one instead of getting the usual CD's and other stuff I dont need for Christmas.
Cheapest one I found is here;
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0304684996

It is a small plastic box, and comes with cables, one goes to the blue socket on the radio and the other is a twin Phono to 3.5mm stereo jack plug.
The box contains a circuit board with components and sockets. It is worth the price, it is not just a junction box.
Fitting took about 20 mins. I had to remove the green and yellow plugs as well, but did'nt lose the radio code.

I intend to add a 3.5mm jack socket somewhere on the radio facia, but I have just left the input cable hanging out of the facia for now.
When I pushed the 6 cd changer button, the display shows one CD in changer, with 2 tracks.
My car has the CD changer cable to be boot, but no changer fitted.

I used the adaptor with a Pure Pocketdab 1500 dab radio.
I was worried that because this radio uses the headphone cable as the aerial, that the adaptor might ground the dab signal, but it worked very well.
