Re: Front spring failure....... AGAIN!!!!!!!
I think we eliminated every part that's involved with the steering, apart from the column and the ram, if that's not counted as part of the rack. My cat's going to cost about 100 quid, is it that?

Re: Front spring failure....... AGAIN!!!!!!!
How about the UJ that connects the steering column to the rack? I've never heard of one siezing but that would account for the "square wheels" thing, just not the other stuff

Re: Front spring failure....... AGAIN!!!!!!!
Nah, that's not 'til next February. These wood burners aren't really supposed to run 24/7 but two months ago Ma Television decided she was cold so it's been going ever since. I even have to close everything down to run it all night, it really doesn't like that, sometimes I can hardly get the door open in the morning.

Re: Front spring failure....... AGAIN!!!!!!!
But if it is the UJ how come it was not gradual - I have never ever known one so much as wear let alone crack up even on trucks the size of houses - they have no work to do with power steering!!! I'll believe it when they change it and let you compare the new one to see the problem - astonishing. If it is, I'm getting shut, Peugeot just got the boot from me, this is real serious stuff - they're just Leggo cars.

I knew you would get there in the end, Stevie baby![]()
Apparently it moves up and down but there is very little movement coming from side to side.
So now we all know.
Hopefully that's the full extent of it - Dave's invited me to pop down if I want so he can show me but if it's that obvious then I don't think it's necessary - they always show me what they've removed when they work on my car anyway
This problem used to be very common on Ford Fiestas.
It might have helped if you had told me if the problem was there before the spring job or occurred afterwards, but no matter, fault is found!
Anyway folks, I've had enough of cars and their problems (not to mention their owners) for this year.
Happy Christmas to you all, and best wishes for 2009.

You won't need me anyhow, after all, Longintooth is an expert,he knows everything

Take care people, maybe I'll be back in 2009, maybe......

Bloody hell even jasper didn't guess that one and he would think of something I forgot, happy new year Jasper - I don't think it is that UJ - it does not make sense on a power steered car - Get some photos Supa.

Re: Front spring failure....... AGAIN!!!!!!!
They reckon average mileage is 10-12,000 a year, so you do 6 month's worth a month
I've seen those UJs with a load of play in them on high mileage cars but never siezed (I've only ever worked on 1 Fester, thankfully, all that was wrong with that was no brakes and engine falling out.)
I could imagine that getting worse so gradually you'd only notice when you started developing extra muscles.
