2.0 Turbo **NO BOOST HELP**

Post by lynneandcrow »

Hi there I recently bought my much loved Peugeot 406 Executive (2.0 Turbo) I had a Xantia Activa before so I knew my way around the engine and had no mechanical problems with the lump before.
The problem I have is that I blew my turbo 3 weeks ago (Seals Bearings etc) I got it fixed and got it fitted back to the car. But there was no boost, so I read through previous posts and decided that it may be the Dump Valve suck open so I bought a new DV and fitted it. The next problem I had was that the DV was releasing all the boost. So looking through this forum and I found out it could be the Electro Valve. Which I have now replaced and has solved the DV from leaking the boost.
BUT still no boost through the engine. I know that the turbo works, The Dump Valve works, the Elecro Valve works. What more could it be.

I am now thinking that it must be the Intercooler as when I accelerate there is a raspy noise like the exhaust leaking but all this has been checked and boost is being acheived through the turbo just not into the engine. Maby I have blown the Intercooler when the Turbo had its last surge of power?????????????????????

Please help..... :?

If you have boost going into the engine but no power and a "rasping noise" I would check where the noise is coming from, if it's from the exhaust, I would suggest a blocked cat/particulate filter, or some sort of blockage in the exhaust.

If the rasping noise is coming from around the engine, check for a split rubber or plastic turbo pipe.I had this problem a couple of months ago on a Ford Focus TDCi, the turbo pipe had split.

If you put your hand over the exhaust, there should be enough force to want to force your hand away, a blockage would mean little pressure to force your hand away....use a rag so as not to burn your hand.

I have had blocked cats in the past, ie, no power.

Thanks for the reply ive already tryed that, the exhaust seems clear and infact there is quite a bit of exhaust emmisions not bad ones i.e. No blue smoke or nasty smells(2 year old exhaust). There is no exhaust noise at low revs only after around 2000RPM when the turbo should kick in. The inlet manifold was my first port of call for inspection when the turbo went as I didnt want to accept the inevitable that the turbo was blown :( . All exhaust gaskets were fine going on with the recon turbo. There is also no obvious holes in the exhast at any point. It sounds like the turbo is bypassing the engine and air from the turbo is going back into the exhaust not into the engine. There is no excesive use of oil or water and I can hear the turbo spin up to full RPM. I am clutching at straws now :frown: I want my boost back.

This has got me baffled as my previos Xantia 2.0 Turbo was so easy to diagnose a problem

The waste gate is fine, Turbo spins up and has just been repaired and tested and is working fine. The problem I thought I had solved has come back the DUMP VALVE is stuck open. I replaced the original DV as it had failed. So I fitted an after market one and it will not close. The pipe controling Vacume and +ive presure (which opens and closes the DV) only gives vacume to the DV (Leaving it open) acording to my Boost Gauge. I think a pipe has came off along the line somewhere. There is a block if you follow the thin pipe going into the top of the DV that go's to a valve type thing I only have 1 pipe going in and 1 pipe comming out of this, there is another space on this but I dont know if a pipe went in here also can someone please look at there 406 Turbo Engine and let me know??

Hi again just an update on how I am getting on. I had the car on Peugeot Planets Diagnostics and everything is fine. It looks like the intercooler is humped. Anyone know where I can get a good after market one???
