Washers have died... Arggghhh!!!

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

My god the D9 Haynes (I may have 'acquired' a pdf) has the worst wiring diagrams ever. It doesn't even have a list of the engine bay fuses!

According to it, It's fuse 25 and the washer motor's wired directly to the stalk? Then again, according to the D9 Haynes, the rear washer pump will never work because the + and - are both connected to the same line! And it's the number of the front pump not the rear. My god I'm glad the D8 Haynes isn't anywhere near this bad!

Easy check soops is to shove a bulb or multimeter over the terminals on the pump connector (find it in the front of the right wing, access via the o/s/f wheelarch liner). If there's power there, it's just a new pump you need

It'll be a fuse in the engine bay fuse box, mine used to blow almost everytime if i used the headlight washer in icy conditions.

From memory its a 10 Amp, but not sure what number, its a case of pull them out till you find them. It might actually say on the rear of the lid what each fuse does, you never know with a pug!

Haynes fuse listing confirms Fuse 25 in passenger compartment fusebox, for front & rear wash/wipe, (20 Amp).
Agree with mjb, Haynes diagram = pure b0ll0cks, rear washer pump is misidentified & I suspect wash/wipe switch terminals are mislabled on 'Rear wash/wipe' diagram.

Do the headlamp washer jets have a separate pump? What lifts them, water pressure?

I reckon they're frozen?

Syphon out the screen wash and poor in a load of warm water, let it rest for 30 mins then try again?

Finking about it - cos you must get through so much screenwash then sometimes the cheaper stuff can congeal at the bottom and block up the inlets to the pumps.

I had to syphon (and flush at the same time) my mums screenwash bottle as the previous owner had used 'god knows what' in there and it was minging

You need the later type 'mist' washer jets - either you won't be able to tell the colour of the gunk, or it'll never reach the screen :supafrisk:
