auto headlights

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Never use mine, but turned them on accidentally over Christmas. Started car in garage, on they came, thought 'Odd, sure I didn't leave them on'. So tried ot turn them off, went to sidelights, then back to dips, same the other way. Finally realised what was wrong, took me another couple of days to work out how to turn them off

I don't know the answer, but maybe you get a brief voltage 'spike' between emgine starting & alternator settling down to normal output. If using auto lights, they would be on at this time, whereas normally you'd wait till it was running before turning them on. Guess work admittedly, but I think I'll count it as another reason not to use auto.

I had mine on all last summer, I did have a bulb blow but I'm not sure if that was just coincidence.

Btw the compulsory headlamp thing is back again and will be every winter. Summer was stupid but winter makes sense 'cos the natives don't appear to have any idea when it's dark enough to warrant headlamps.

D8s don't have auto headlights
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Whilst on the subject of headlamps, my super-dooper Osram Nightbreakers have started to fail after 12months (bear in mind a big summer gap too).

I was warned they wouldn't last as long as normal bulbs but I am dissapointed :frown:

Maybe this guy has uprated bulbs? mine failed after I switched them on for a few minutes then on/off again and one popped.

Welly, get on ace parts. I have all xenon bulbs at the front dipped main beam sidelights and fog.

The only ones that have blown in mine in 3yrs is one sidelight bulb and a fog light bulb thats it.
