Washers have died... Arggghhh!!!

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

My god how much does peugeot screenwash cost? Is it worth it?

I tend to chuck 2x 2.5l bottles of Tesco concentrated screenwash in (the 5l containers aren't concentrated so avoid them) followed by a 5l bottle of water. I've tried quite a few brands and Tescos seems to be the best although it's a bit smelly if you use it higher than 50% concentration.

I'd be truly lost without my 5l bottle, good for de-icing windows with cool water, and re-filling a tubby radiator on the hard shoulder too 8)

I always used to use plain water as it never blocks the jets / pipes etc. & I've had to unblock loads of infrequently used, (usually rear) washers over the years. It freezes more regularly, but I didn't think there were that many occasions when screen wash would prevent a freeze-up.
When I bought Pug, it had been (expensively) maintained by the dealers, (e.g over £200 for little more than an oil change  ), and had a full washer reservoir....
Have to admit I was really impressed by cleaning performance of wash/wipe system, (even on a 100,000 mile pitted windscreen). The combination of 'mist' type washers, screenwash fluid & new wiper blades, worked really well even in the cold snap before xmas, so far it's never frozen. :)
So I broke my own rule & put screenwash in now, (though not at dealer prices - Asda's finest followed by whatever brand Santa uses)

Lidl here do 5 litres of not concentrate for 29kn (3 quid odd), it says on the bottle it goes down to -20...

...yesterday I was at a mate's to slop some paint round her kitchen, when I opened my bucket of white paint it was frozen solid. I don't think tap water in my washer bottle would be a good idea.

If you're worried about the smell they do a sachet of something to make it smell like aftershave

mine froze up, as soon as they are not working DO NOT TRY AGAIN until its warmed up again

The washers on the lights pop out due to water pressure

if the lines/pump is frozen all you will do is burn the motor out/ pop a fuse

I pour hot water in when i get home from a drive, this combined with the engine heat usually helps

I find with the strong (50%) mix of tesco fluid I use in the winter, it won't be frozen at -8c but it will be sticky gunk by the time it hits the windscreen! It's usually fine by the time the vents are chucking out lukewarm air, which for the diesel owners (with the fancy electric heater on the matrix inlet pipe) would be shortly after the temperature gauge has gone over 70. Might take a bit more if you've not got bonnet insulation though

Hey guys, Just recieved these from eBay. They work excellently and are way cooler than the originals but i can't adjust the aim and they shoot right over the windscreen. I'll get back to you with an update later.
