Significant Lack of Power

Significant Lack of Power
I've suddenly lost a lot of power especially in the low revs. What is also strange is that the revs take ages to build up. Also if I've been moving at high revs then stop it takes a long time for the revs to come down to the idle revs of 1000. Any ideas?

I'm guessing sticky injection pump.

Don't diss the bio.
1.9td's love veg oil and when you can collect used oil for free running cost's don't get any cheeper.

Re: Significant Lack of Power
Assuming 406's are the same as 405's and came with two different fuel pumps, it depends which fuel pump is fitted. If it's a Bosch then it'll be ok, if it's Lucas then there's going to be problems, especially running filtered WVO. I know as I've been running my Bosch pumped 405 on a WVO mix for the last 6 months or so and I spent a lot of time looking into it before starting as I didn't want to knacker the engine as it was the car to get me to and from work.
Re: Significant Lack of Power
I have a 405 myself (bosch pump) 11,000k on wvo now running biodeisel.
All 406 1.9td's have a bosch pump and will run wvo (waste veg oil) with little or on mods as long as the engine is in good condition.

Re: Significant Lack of Power
My brother's got a 98 306TD, (with Lucas pump), which has died on him, (sometimes 2-3 times a week), on & off for about a year.
It's been towed home by a variety of my HDi's, (which he regards as very unreliable and potential money pits).
He ran his previous 405GTX TD estate, (Bosch pump), on WVO in warmer weather. TBH it ran better, smoother and just generally sounded happier on veg oil. Some twat in a Seat Cupra used the 405 in lieu of braking distance last year, so it was reluctantly retired & he bought the 306. The 405 was a reasonable car - only towed it back once.
The 306 also seemed happy on WVO, but then started to play up. We discovered one of the solenoid valves in the pump, (timing advance I think), was sticking & when it doesn't operate, it won't start. Currently it's got a spacer in there to force the diaphragm over and it's been running happily on 'Dino Diesel', without incident for about 2 weeks.
I have recently discovered that Lucas pumps & WVO don't get on. Some people suggest it destroys the pump, but our experience suggests it makes the internals 'sticky' and so thought this might be what wills was experiencing.

Re: Significant Lack of Power
you can run a lucas on veg but you need to twin tank it, for more info go to www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk.
the lucas will snap its man shaft on cold veg oil but if run on diesel untill warm it will be fine.
