Re: Does your 406 still have its front splitter?
Good question
Mine's still there but the nearside slotty clippy holdy bit is snapped so the last 6 inches are unsecure (you've reminded me now to re-glue it again now).
Every other week or so I have to ease the other end back into it's slots especially after I twatted a Rabbit a few weeks back
What does it do anyway? I know that imediately behind it there's an air slot in the under tray - maybe it's there to stop the tray being ripped off by air pressure (remembers need to fit another tie-wrap to said tray).

Re: Does your 406 still have its front splitter?

rip in it
rip in it

.. ooh are those drugs for me Matron
Re: Does your 406 still have its front splitter?
My slotty clippy hold was coming loose at the offside and i cut that part off and it left about two inches with no holding for the splitter. I glued that portion back on. It was painful holding it in place for 10 mins while the glue setWelton wrote:Mine's still there but the nearside slotty clippy holdy bit is snapped so the last 6 inches are unsecure (you've reminded me now to re-glue it again now).

Yeah, I had trouble glueing mine - propped it with a carboard tube if I recall whilst I ate my spaghetti on toast

Do I have to eat spaghetti and toast while propping it? Can i have beans and toast?
Yo Welly? How did you get 1900rpm at 60mph?

Re: Does your 406 still have its front splitter?
No no you can have Spaghetti & Sausages if you like but it must be a Spaghetti based product I'm afraid (something to do with the curing time of the Super Glue).
RPM wise it's actually a bit less than 1900 - the needle sits between 1750 and 2000 so, like, 1875 rpm but that's getting a bit nerdy now
oh and 5th gear of course.
Be interesting to know if the 110 gearing is different to the 90?

It is. My uncles 110 revs lower than my 90. Thats why the 110 is more econimical i supposeWelton wrote:No no you can have Spaghetti & Sausages if you like but it must be a Spaghetti based product I'm afraid (something to do with the curing time of the Super Glue).

I never knew that but I do realise that diesel gearing has to be matched well to the torque characteristics of the engine so I suppose it makes sense.
I thought the 90 model always returned better mpg than the 110?

Re: Does your 406 still have its front splitter?
I thought that overall gearing was down to gearbox choice - later 110 & 136's have the ML5T 'box, (Lift for reverse, reverse next to 1st), while older ones & possibly 90's have the BE3? (reverse next to 4th). While car hunting last year, I reckon I drove 110's & 136's with both 'boxes.' Y' reg = BE3, '02' & later = ML5T, but you guys probably have the definitive answer.
Overall mph/1000 is about 31 for mine, but I think it varies by about 0.2 mph/1000 depending on tyre / rim size, (mine are 205/60/15's).

Re: Does your 406 still have its front splitter?
My 1999 110 has reverse next to 4th so that'll be a BE3
I didn't know there was another 'MLT' type box
That's 2 things I've learned today! (sadly I think I've also forgotten 5 other things

Is it a D9 only thing the front splitter?
Also I have a D8 2.1TD which according to Haynes comes with the ML5T gearbox and that has reverse next to fourth...

Re: Does your 406 still have its front splitter?
Pretty sure the gearbox model (eg. ML5T) is just the name for the design of the thing, as both the tubby and V6 have the box but the gearing (at least the final drive) is slightly different. My tubby hit 100mph at exactly 4000rpm in 5th but the V6 does it a fair bit lower.
Also the V6 is happy to engage first at a walking pace whereas both tubbies I've driven need you to either stop or double-declutch to do it, but that may just be down to the tubby using a mechanical gear linkage and the V6 using cables...
