Locking itself!

Locking itself!
Right Ive had a little search and nothing has come up so...
My 406 has decided to periodically lock itself. Now this in itself is not a huge issue (better than unlocking!) but its really annoying when youre driving along and the indicators keep flashing!
Could anyone advise me on how to go about sorting it? Does it point to some silly part that will be £9 billion pounds or could it be something like water getting to a motor? (given my love of washing it)
Any help will be greatly appreciated as I shouted at it earlier and its now sat looking sad on my drive.
TIA,Iain.

Re: Locking itself!
Going along, lights flashing? Does this only happen when the car's going or can it happen any time? I seem to remember both of mine won't lock by the plip while the engine's running, does yours? If so then maybe it's something daft like a broken microswitch in the plip. I can't see it being a switch in the doorlock, that shouldn't make the lights flash (not on mine but they're forign without deadlocks or anything) so maybe, if it's not the plip, you're looking at a problem with the reciever itself.

Re: Locking itself!
Does it have an aftermarket alarm as that may be the culprit.
Re: Locking itself!
AFAIK its a totally standard pug setup, immob but no alarm (that ive heard anyway).
It randomly locks itself while driving and also it was doing it earlier on the drive and when it locks it flashes the indicators.
It did it while I had the engine running too to demist the windows, good job ive got a spare key or Id have been totally buggered!!

Re: Locking itself!
It is definately random, and not after a pre-defined period of time? I'm just thinking of the anti hi-jack add-ons you can get.
Re: Locking itself!
Yep totally random.Never done it in the near on 3 years Ive had it until about a month ago and never done it again since then until today.
Did it 4 times earlier and not since! Was out about an hour ago and nothing.

Re: Locking itself!
The 406 should ignore the plip when the ignition's on - when I'm leaving my car to de-ice of a morning I need to put the spare key in the door barrel to lock/unlock it.
Is it a D8 or D9?
If it's a D8 I'll have a look later to see if I can figure out what's likely to be causing it. Is it only locking, never unlocking?

Re: Locking itself!
Yep its a D9 (or mark 2 as I call it),its never unlocked luckily.
As an update its done about 70 miles today and not a whisper of the issue.
Ive checked carpets and boot for water ingress and nothing.
I think it kinda points to something expensive.

Re: Locking itself!
Ah. Afraid I don't know enough about D9 electrics to help. I'm curious as to how it can happen while you're not even in the car though - that's nuts even for an intermittent problem! Perhaps a blown cap in the central locking/alarm ecu? Maybe just a worn/cut wire running very near the body?

Re: Locking itself!
I knew someone who had a 206 that used to unlock itself, they never did get to the bottom of it and eventually traded the car back into Peugeot....
Sorry that's no help....

Re: Locking itself!
sure that wasn't just the locks falling out of the holes in the doors? I've seen how well 206s are put together...

Re: Locking itself!
Only thing i can pinpoint it to is maybe water getting to something whilst its being pressure washed.
It doesnt do it in the rain so it must be me being over zealous with the karcher, ive got a few ideas so ill try them this week when i wash it and stick some more wax on it.

Re: Locking itself!
hmm yes it could be something around the drivers door locking mechanism getting wet

Re: Locking itself!
Bugger
Ive found water.
Rear passenger side carpet is wet.
Too dark to poke about now so i hope its nice tomorrow.
Any idea if this could cause the locking problem? Anyone had this before and can point me towards solution?

Right bugger the dark
Ive took the door card off and found this

This is under the left most seal on the door top under the small rear quarter window and is like a u shaped piece of metal.
I guess this could be where it leaks?
