A bit squealy...

Hi guys... still working on my fuel line problem... investigating a couple of leads...

Meanwhile, while I've had my head in the bay with the engine running there seems to be a bit of a squeal coming from the starboard side, somewhere near the bottom. I had the belt changed about 16 months/5000 miles ago (roughly)... was wondering if maybe something like the alternator bearings were going?

It's always possible, if you've got a long screwdriver or similar.. I'm sure you know where I'm coming from.

Well, you could try that but I was thinking more of using it as a stethascope - one end to the article in question and the other to your ear (preferably not the pointy end). I had visions of you doing that sort of thing on your big diesels a la Das Boot...

Lack of use

The belt itself is normally to blame for funny noises maybe it's kinda damp?

Take it off then run the engine?

Squirt the alternator with WD40 to check?

Leave it and go back to sea?

Actually, you're spot on - I used an 8" shifter, jammed it between the gubbinz and my ear defenders... sounded like a bag of hammers most of the time but that's beside the point. Now feeling slightly daft that this didn't occur to me in the first place... thanks for the idea ^^
