Mine seems to do this an odd time too. Never found a reason, but I have realised that if you re-try within a few seconds it never works. Leave it for say 30 seconds & it always works! I know this suggests a low battery, but it tests OK.

iv'e just bought a 406 lx off my uncle and he said that the key fob hadn't worked for 4 years.so i bought a new battery.that didn't work.i then took out the small circit board and the switch button had come off.i got a very fine soldering tip for my soldering gun and stuck it back on .then to program it in i followed the instructions in my hand book and low and behold it works fine.

Nice job! It's about time someone had some luck with keys

You shouldn't use a soldering gun for small low voltage pcb work like in a key though, they're far too powerful and usually a lot hotter than irons too. I've seen a few boards that have been fried by those things! You're best off with a small iron...
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
