Sorry if I'm monopolizing the questions ~ I'm having a bit of a 'car' fixing week.
My D8 doesn't usually lock / unlock from the fob (it does sometimes), so I've been using the key. The drivers side lock has always been a bit 'sticky', sometimes refusing to turn or engage, sometimes it does. It's getting gradually worse and worse. The key works 100% of the time in the passenger side. I suspect the barrel of the lock is worn, but it might just be a lack of lubrication. Can I bung any old oil in there, or should I only use something specific? If I can't fix it, I am assuming I can just swap the locks over?
I should probably get off my fat arse and buy a new battery for the key to see if that is what's wrong with it as well
Hi JJ
Use a small screwdriver to push open the little flap in the lock and wind a load of WD40 in there; worked for me!
Re the plip; if changing the batteries doesn't work, the buttons can go iffy; they are possible to split apart and clean but it's a fiddly pig of a job.

Cheers for the info. I'll add that to tomorrows jobs. I've just ordered 2 of the correct batteries from flea bay, swiss Renata ones ~ less than 2 squid including postage. I can't believe I've owned and driven my D8 around for nearly 3 years without trying new ones. I had it in my head they were like £20 or something. Doh!
Don't worry about having loads of problems - it gives us something to argue about and loads of threads to hijack
When not at home my keys are always in my jeans pocket and I guess I must be crushing them now and again because I seem to get through a pair of batteries every 8 months or so One day I'm struggling to unlock the door, the next I have to use the key and WOO WOO WOO WOO WOO stupid alarm...

My plip doesn't work at all since I did the alternator
It must be that bridging wire I soldered in the plip, I just haven't got round to checking it yet. It is starting to bug me now though!

I know it sounds like nonsense
I must have dropped the keys or something because the plip was working intermittently before I started on the alternator

Suggestion from the bloke at the shop wot cut my new house keys: use a metal edge to scrape shavings of graphite off a pencil lead on to the key then shove it in the lock and give it a good jiggle: lubricates the lock
