Did you kids over in the UK get the Swift GTI? They were a real cult car out here as they are cheap to modify and were 1/3 cheaper than a 205 GTI at the time!

One of my customers had a Swift GTi, very reliable and fast motor. I looked after it for a few years, never gave much trouble.

A Pilgrim Sumo. Going to be sweet with a 5 litre Chevy V8

My other car is this zetec turbo escort which im currently building.
Before it was painted:

Ignore the wheels, there just on so it rolls and also the rear lights are getting replaced with the 90spec s2 smoked lights.
This was my previous car which I wish I never sold :(
Image

I bought it with a blown 1700 diesel engine.
I fitted a 1700 turbo diesel engine from a cavalier to it, fitted a bleed valve to the turbo- holding 20psi boost, fuel pump was modified for more fuelling(whats knownn as the white ring mod), front intercooler, K&N airfilter, replaced the cat and middlebox with a straight pipe and this was 1 very quick little car. I fitted the brakes from a cavalier to it but you still couldnt stop it,, lol.

The reason I sold it:

I had 3 gearboxes in it in 18 months!
To much torque, used to eat boxes and tyres for fun.
The lad who bought it had it resprayed in black and then sold it on.

shame about the gearbox dude, i bet it did shift to sheer off a gear shaft like that, mjb have ya saw the dax cobra ? they supply you with a small block ( small being 6litre odd ) chevy v8 or a small pony engine out of a mustang gt, being a tiny yankie 5.0 litre lol makes me laugh small block, theres nowt small about its capacity, to look at yeah they are small but bloody hell they shift, me uncle had the dax cobra, he had a similar problem to macturbo with sheering things, his was drive shafts, but the main prop he used to snap regular, it used to break on the U.J regular or just chew it up an spit it out or just rip the teeth outta the diff lol, he er, lets say "sold" it now, hes into importing old vee dub buses split screen ones at that with shooting windows, raking it in at 20k a pop, hes got a waiting list an everything for an air cooled rolling turd with windows

Very expensive. I'd be looking at around £35k for a Dax whereas I can build a very similarly specced Pilgrim for under £10k

1980 'V' Series III Land Rover 88'' Petrol 2.25. Top speed (without going deaf) around 60mph. Fuel economy on a good run 20mpg, 12 - 18 when off road. Braking and turning distance similar to an oil tanker. As comfortable as your average park bench. On wheels. Traveling down a rocky road. Always breaking down, rusting away, blowing bulbs, etc. Tractor like gear change and brakes. An endless money pit.

I love it!

is it a general thing to have a toy 4x4 on standby ? seems most people have got a mud plugger hidden away in the corner of the garage :cheesy: i was looking at an old landy myself, i love doin old proper tin cars up just aint got a lot of time to keep on top of the tin worm problem they all have, so i thought id get sumot that rotted a little bit slower - a vw taro, well hilux anyways got 35" wheels on 15" alloys, 4" bodylift, double hooped roll bar, full bumper replacement bull bar, 4 hella spotlamps on the roof and 2 under bumper, snorkel, american stack exhausts, tailgate net, baja style wheel carrier on the bed, orange marker american truck style lights on the roof and under bumper, cb radio, police siren under the bonnet, touch screen JVC head unit, and soon to be fitted a superwinch 2.5 tonne electric winch :P just to get mesen out of the deep brown stuff or help others that are. reading back through that list i think i got mesen a bargain at £1250 only got 37k on the clock too :P
