Can anyone help me evey time i hit a pot hole my rev counter jumps to two and a half thousand revs and stays there (not the actual engine revs just the needle)also my speedo stops working then a couple of mile later it sort of wakes up and slowly moves up to what speed im doing. If anyone has had a similar problem and sorted it plz plz plz tell me how you did it.
Yea, I'm experiencing intermittant speedo readings - 406 90bhp rapier - can stop for a few miles then okay for a hundred or so !! weird, any answers ??
Remove the instrument cluster from the car.
Separate the back section of the cluster from the cowl by removing the nine (I think) screws.
Watch out here as eight of the screws are on the outside edge but there is also a securing screw in the centre of the cluster.
Pull the two halves of the cluster apart carefully.
Lift the dials and face out of the rear section of the cluster and this will expose the PCB where the problem lies.
Remove the PCB from the rear section of the cluster by unclipping the ribbon cable that supplies the warning bulbs by removing the metal push-over retainer and unclipping the plastic clip under that.
Remove the screw at the opposite end to this and undo all of the plastic retainers to get the board out.
Be very careful as snapping the board is fatal.
With the board removed you can gain access to the four pins that supply the voltage to each of the dials.
Flip the board over and resolder the pins on the problem dial and refit the cluster.
Be careful when soldering as some of the pins are located very near to other components and you don't want a short.
When I first got my car none of the gauges worked properly and this sorted it.
Hope this is clear enough.
There used to be images of this repair on the forum but I can't find them any more.
