If your car is a D9 (1999 onwards) then the radio is kind of 'logged' to the car via the BSi unit and does not have a code to input as such.
You will not be able to use the radio in another 406 wthout having it 'coded' to the car.
Disconnecting the battery will not effect the radio as it is.

My 98 D8 saloon needs a code. Strangely though, my 99 D8 JBL'd coupe does not (though admittedly they are different OEM head units).
I would have thought Peugeot could supply you with the head unit code, though doubtless they would want £20 for the priveledge.

Disconnecting the ECU for half an hour won't clear any codes. You need to do this via the OBD port

does anyone have more info on changing the code for a different car ?

If you're on about a D9 you'll have to take it to a dealer for re-coding. It's not something you can DIY.
