Will you forgive me, I've bought another car...

Post by Welly »

Despite all the gloom and doom out there our company is doing very well and is set to continue too (we're tapped into the contruction of all these 'Academy's' read:Schools  and supermarkets both of which are unaffected in recession) anyway after 8 years of ordinaryness I have finally secured a much better deal which has provided me with a budget for some new wheels.

I negociated my new deal at the end of January and on the 3rd of February I went to Birmingham to collect this.....

Because of the weather I've wimped out and stored it in my garage -I've literally driven it 60 miles back from brum and plonked in the garage since 3rd Feb :|

There's my 406 too
Image
Here's where I bought it - its outside the window there to the right
Image

It's a T5 SE 2.5ltr Turbo, 1 owner, 23,930 miles, 6-speed, full history, with a 12 month Volvo Warrenty for £6,987.00 8)

Now I saw this car a couple of weeks ago and missed out on it, then the dealer rang me to say the other buyer can't get the finance so I reserved it and went over on Saturday 31st Jan and bought it :)

I paid for one of those Glasses valuations (£3.50) and it came up as £9,960.00 from a dealer :supafrisk: the Dealer has decided to churn out cars at a modest return rather than sit there staring out the window (the place was crammed with punters).

It has all the comfort and extras of a 406 exec but has a sporting edge with it being based on the current Focus chassis.

Running costs will be pretty good with just basic fluid changes for the next few years (cam belt is at 112000 miles or 10 years  ) and I've worked out that the fuel will cost an extra £8.00 per week for unleaded or £10.00 for Super.

I've worked out the fuel based on 24 mpg against the 38 of the HDi but the Volvo was showing 27 mpg average when I bought it and this went up to 28 on the way home :supafrisk: actually the Volvo T5 can be economical (apparently).

Oh and for a laugh I got the dealer to value my 406......£375.00

I'm still using the 406 for another week or so and then I'll put it in Autotrader for sale

Hope you will forgive me? and I am sooooo not going anywhere cos I like you all too much

Looks nice Welly, what engine's it got?
Hope you stick around, place won't be the same.
I've been thinking that a fair few owners are bound to move on to something else as the 406 hasn't been current for 5/6 years now, which is a shame really cos they're a good bunch on here....

I won't go anywhere - to be honest I don't think I can be arsed to join another foum and go through the pain of building up a relationship again :)

Engine wise it's a Petrol 5 cylinder 2.5 Light-pressure Turbo (T5).

220 bhp with 236lbft at 1500-4800 rpm. In fact you drive it like a diesel because the turbo spools up very quickly with no lag (flat torque curve etc...).

You do know you could have gotten a *mint* V6 coupe for that money, along with petrol for 10 years, a 72" TV, new computer, extension to the house, etc...? :)

Looks a pretty smart motor though, except for the 'floating' centre console thing (I hate those). Get an old coat from Oxfam, put a high-vis jacket on it and leave it on your parcel shelf. See how many ppl SLAM their brakes on on the motorway run :)

Is that the engine from the Focus ST?

They are a nice car the Volvo, A hybrid mix of several cars, but a nice car all the same.

It is the Focus ST engine, in fact I was going for a Focus but was put off by the theft problem so my enquiries led to the Volvo :supafrisk:

It's a shame after all you've had to shell out on the 406 recently :(
