Hello & do we do the drinks thing?
Because if so Dapper67 can have whatever he wants!
Thanks to Steve E via Honest John too for referring me to here. Oh go on-help yourselves at the bar & there's sossies in a hot pot & mustard too.
Anyhow-on my 2nd 406. Had a 110 Estate that was rear-ended & now have a 2001 2.2 136-although where on earth those extra 26 horses were I'll never know. Anyhow, it has a Van Aaken box on it now & that's made the difference. Started pug ownership off with a normally aspirated 205 diesel, gave that away & then had a 205 Turbo diesel, which for old skool was flipping superb.
Starting to have the electrical gremlins poking their noses in & the rear seatbelt reel is kaput-there, bet that's surprised you all.
Off to have a search around now. Anyone going to Crufts this year?

Re: Hello & do we do the drinks thing?
Estate, centre belt? It's a known problem with the inertia reel unit being tilted when you have the seat down. The solution is to let it in a bit with the seat back, and the safest way of doing this is to lift the bench bit and unbolt where the seatbelt's attached to the bodyEditor wrote:the rear seatbelt reel is kaput-there

Hi there Editor *waves* I guess you didn't know about this place before (is it bad to poach members off other forums?). HJ is one of many forums I "patrol" for any useful snippets, sometime I just can't help myself though... Anyway, welcome, pull up a comfy chair next to the fire and relax, you're amongst friends
Crufts? Bit of a way to go for me I'm afraid. There are quite a few animal lovers on this forum though...

Cor-you lot like your wifebeaters!
I've done the seat move for the inertia stick a couple of times. This time it wasn't having any of it, so I conducted some surgery. Has anyone ever taken an interia reel apart? It's a lot of fun seeing that ribbon spring through the air......and I now have a nice clean vast rip across the seat cloth from getting to it. It now looks like a chav car, so little hope of someone pinching it.
2.0 110 vs 2.2 136
IMO 110 has power right from the second you apply throttle. Not so on 136 or the 90. It's much smoother than the 136 &, again IMO, B all discernable extra power in the 136. If I had my choice again I'd still go 110, even with the below add on. And pre FAP/Eolysys too. But you all know about that.
Van Aaken were in Sandhurst & by many accounts made the best plug in extra power boxes for all manner of cars. Went out of business last year, but you can see their old website with one of those web archive things. Certainly makes the B fly. Major shove when the turbo kicks in & keeps the push going through the rev range, when you would have been running out of breath & changing up. Ebay as usual, but it's essential you know what pump you have on your 406.
Has anyone fixed the reed switch in the fuel filler pipe? If so, what did you do please? Perhaps that should be a new thread or added to the one that bought me in!

Re: Hello & do we do the drinks thing?
Fosters for me.
There's very few 2.2 owners on here - I think it's you, me, amron, & Neil's HDi coop, if he's still got it, maybe one other?
I tried 5 or 6 different 2.2's before getting mine and found they did vary quite a lot - I put it down to cleanliness or otherwise of the FAP as they all seemed to have similar final output, but very different throttle response / turbo lag. (2 of them had FAP system problems evident). The first 136 I drove, (Y-plate GTX estate), seemed quick & incredibly smooth, on test drive accelerated up to 75 (I thought at a quick glance) when the vendor suggested I slow down for the cameras - I was doing 95 without realising it.
I only tried 2 110's, (both GTX estates), neither seemed to have comparable ugre to the 2.2 but TBH neither was a great specimen. Perhaps I didn't drive a good 110, but I decided that engine wasn't really comfortable with the weight of a top spec estate.
What was your mpg with/without the tuning box?
