the engine mangement light has come on my pug but dont have a clue what it is as its running ok is there and a fault code reader i can get to read this save a trip a garage and charging me lots of money

its probably a throttle position sensor error which isn't really a problem. You can drive around forever with that fault and it won't matter. If you want to clear it, check on ebay for an obd II code reader. I have the elm 327 and you can clear the code via scantool.net software

It says it does OBD 2, so it should be ok, never used one like that, the one I use cost £1600.

I've got the ELM 327 (the one in the Amazon link, but I paid lots more than that off ebay a couple of years ago

), it works fine on my car but I have a feeling it won't talk to a '99 HDi. IIRC cars weren't required by law to be OBD II compliant until 2001 for petrol and 2004 for diesel.

edit: it says 2000 / 2003 in the wiki page here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OBD-II#OBD-II

edit2: I tried it on a 307 HDi once and it refused to work, think that was a '52 plate....

so is there any 1 on here thats actually tried any thing like this on a 1999 406 110 hdi or it could be a trip to my local garage and be charged a fortune
