Passanger window sometimes doesnt work

some days the window works and others it doesnt, yesterday when i pressed the button to do the window up the light on the button would go out completely as if its drawing loads of current or something but i couldnt get the window to work for the whole night, what could this be? other days it works fine

Is it a D8 (radiator grille like the one in my sig image) or a D9 (mesh radiator grille)?

It's a D8. Unfortunately I don't have a Haynes to hand :/ When you press the button with the engine off and headlights on, do they (the headlights) dim? What about the interior light? Is there any sound coming from the door?

Does the passenger-side button act the same way as the drivers-side?

ive suddenly got a headlight bulb out, dunno if its coincidence or something to do with the window prob, not sure about the headlights dimming yet but i just went and tried it and theres no noise from the window switch etc but the fans were on with the ignition and when i pressed the window switch the van noise changed as if powers being drawn, i dont see why it works fine last few times and sometimes not.

i had the same type of problem on my D8, at first the n/s front would work then wouldnt work then it packed up completely. the window switch wouldnt light up, but i still had power to the electric mirror,also at the same time i realised that my electric sunroof,remote central locking wasn't working nor was the heated rear window. some one told me to check all the conections and modules behind the glovebox because sometimes if water gets in there it can cause a bad conection. i never bothered to check them because it was only me who used the car, all i needed was the drivers window to work.

Pop the door card off and see if you've got 12v at the motor when you press the button. I reckon the motor's gone intermittent.

This could also mean you're partially losing the +12V. supply to the door, or more likely the earth. My gues would be a broken wire in the loom to the door as djp suggests. (It takes more power to lift the window, hence the light going out as opposed to dimming when you lower it).

Funnily enough the button light goes out on whichever window button I press on my car; I've always assumed this was a caveat of the wiring design, there are no ill effects. Thinking about it my LX did the same; maybe it's just a D8 thing.

Try opening the door and swing the door to & fro whilst pressing the switch. Thats why I found mine, it worked with door open but not with it shut.

Checked mine - they stay lit at full brightness when windows operating, so D9's is different....

the windows working again now, and the passanger button only goes out when i press the drivers side passanger window switch, when i use the passanger side button its fine, whats this mean?
