An ill wind

Post by Doggy »

Curses!
Parked car on drive, opened garage door, goes back to car, opens drivers door when sudden gust of wind catches it, hand slips and it flies open.
Didn't quite reach the stop cos the rusty box tube frame of my trailer stopped it first
Now I've got a ding like a bullet hole just below the door handle :x

A common fault with all 406's. There is a bolt holding the door on at a point where it shouldn't be and when the door gets an extreme opening it pushes off the bolt and dents the car.

Its a design fault.

My first 406 had it when i got it and i did it myself to the other 406 about a month ago with a similar ill wind. i've seen countless 406's with them.

check my dent out in 'Eoins 406' or darraghs dent in his post

This sort of thing puts the crappers up me when both our cars now have doors that are longer than a horse

Oh man I hate it when that happens :x

Could you get Dent Master or someone?

Oh, mine has that hinge/bolt dent too  - funny cos if you try to open the door up this far back it gets nowhere near the hinge and you daren't push it any further so imagine how bad it stretches back when the wind gets it :frown:

Kids are great with cars aren't they?

Mine regularly pull at the door handles before I've unlocked it and screw up the unlocking/locking.

Muddy shoes.

Eating flakey pastry sosidge rolls.

Crisps.

Slamming Doors.

Slamming doors with the seat belt buckle in there.

Opening doors into oncoming traffic.

yeah, i had the driver side of my car resprayed and told em not to bother fixing that wee dent after i saw about 20 different 406's with the same thing and decided it would just come back, lol.

Bolt? No, on all 3 estate/saloons I've had my mits on it's been caused by the door hitting the hinge. It's not just the wind that can do it either - be careful how you open the door when parked facing down on a sufficiently steep hill...

Hate to think what the coupe's going to do with its 50ft doors/sails
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

I guess i'll have to be more pedantic again. Its a bolt in the hinge.

There may be a design problem or not, but my door collided with a parked trailer BEFORE it reached the fully-open position.
What pr@tt parked that there?

Got the exact same dent on my drivers door, and it is caused by the bolt on the hinge. May think about getting it fixed when I get the spoiler and boot sprayed up to match...
