A BMW has always has 2 round lights on each side so it was natural for them to enhance this look with the Angels (and they did a fine job). But Astras, 406's, Vectras, it's just not right really.
They even look crap on the BMW's that didn't have them like the E36.
The best headlight mod I have ever seen on the 406 is this one - viewtopic.php?t=1180&start=0&postdays=0 ... ight=hella

If you mean replace the standard bulb with a HID and balast unit then you will create unacceptable glare and an uneven beam pattern using the standard reflectors. That's why Voltron went to all the trouble of fitting a projector lens to minimise glare.
If you notice, on ALL standard manufacturers HID's on new cars the headlight is always fitted with a projector, otherwise it would be too bright to expose other oncoming cars to at night.

i still have a pug and both my BMW's were scrapped due to poor build leading to em falling apart.
when things fall off a pug, you clip it back on, when they fall off a beemer, its a nightmare.
exterior trims are the worst on em, but on my 318 i had things like you slammed the boot shut and the interior light fell off, on the 525 you shut the drivers door and the trim at the bottom of it would fall off.
the head gaskets on the M40, M50 and M52 engines always go at around 100,000 miles (even more preictable than a rover one going at 70k) and is a compelte pain to repair (unlike the hours work on the rover that everybody gives the bad rep to)
the front wheelbearings are a problem, as are the front anti roll bar bushes.
basically, BMW has just as many issues as many other cars, they just cost more.
in fact, if you want trouble free motering, there is only one brand i would recommend for the turn the key every day and it goes point of view, and thats a honda, but even then the dizzy will pack up every so often.............

Re: 406 ANGEL EYES
Sorry to dredge up an older post, I never noticed it before, but how come your D8 headlights are crystal clear (i.e. have no frosting on them)? Would quite like to do something similar on mine if the clear covers are easy enough to get hold of/make up myself.
In case anyone's wondering what I'm on about here you go:

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Re: 406 ANGEL EYES
Seeing as how the indicators still have the 'frosting' on, I was guessing that he'd sanded and polished the main section to get rid of all the grooves/markings. Not sure why he didn't do the indicators while he was at it. Hopefully we'll find out soon enough... That said, I may get myself a second pair of headlights and have a go myself while trying out a few other touches.

(Wing is a local term meaning throw away) It looses something in translation from German.
