Only one headlight.. Help me please!

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Only one headlight.. Help me please!

Post by clayman »

My headlight on the drivers side is out. I changed the bulbs around to see if it was them before i went to buy some, and the bulb works on the passengers side. I've checked the fuses also and doesnt seem to be a problem there. Is there anything else i can try? Any help will be greatly appreciated as i need it for work tonight! cheers!

I should probably add that the car is a 406 2.1TD 12v exec

Do you have a mutlimeter? Any you getting voltage at the plug socket would be my first port of call. If yes, then I'd looking at bulbs, and possibly a dodgy connector within the socket. If no, it's gonna be a case of tracing back from there, although are you sure you've checked all the fuses. I seem to recall there was something about the 406 having 3 fuses for the headlights, one for them both on the fuseboard, and then 1 each somewhere in the engine compartment fusebox. I may have got confused about that though.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I have some sort of old multimeter but i have no idea how to use it. According to the manual there is one there for "lighting control".. I thought this would be for both so didnt check it before. Will go check it out.

Both fuses are ok. I should also mention that the high beam works, and before removing the bulb the sidelight worked.

Checked out your 406, looks cool. Did all execs have BHP in their reg?

Nope, it's because of where it was registered. And cheers for that, should hopefully be sporting it's new genuine Peugeot rear spoiler shortly.

Did the passenger side bulb work in the drivers side socket when you swapped the bulbs over, or did you just check the drivers bulb? The bulb could have a dodgy connection on the filament, and be a bit hit and miss as to whether it works or not.

Now the headlights,
That was another sight
We had two on the left
And one on the right
But when we pulled out the stop
All three of 'em come on...
