Fuel Pump Relay

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

I believe HDi 90's were built with both Bosch & Siemens HP pumps - Bosch version has lift pump, Siemens doesn't.
That would explain the lack of relays on some 90's, but my 136 definetely has a lift pump, (can hear it running), but still can't find the relays......

Mine has the Bosch system installed.

Its in the Garage now after being collected late yesterday afternoon.

I phoned them this morning and no one had looked at it but they were going to start on it this afternoon.

Interesting conversation with the mechanic who advised me that Peugeot advise that when the pup goes you should replace the injector pump, fuel rail and all filters as when the pump goes west it sends small shards of metal into the injection system.................. think that i will take the risk of just replacing the pump should it be the faulty item!!

i will ask them where the relay is and if it has one.

Previous posts suggest a failing pump will send bits of itself through with the fuel, but the filter should contain it. In my mind, the trick is ensuring you don't let anything trapped 'escape' while renewing the filter. If it were mine, I would seriously consider replacing both filter & housing complete, this should greatly increase the chance of protecting the rest of the system, i.e. the REALLY expensive bits.
Could either be 0000190169 Filter Strainer £70.56
or 000019016 Filter Strainer £69.71 (Mahle filter)
Alternatively, get one from a scrappy, clean it thouroughly & swap for yours, or remove your own one & clean it off the car.
I think it's perfectly safe until you disturb the fuel filter.......

Update.

Got the car back late yesterday afternoon and its great.

It was the pump, completley shot.

Funny thing is it does seem to drive better but that may just be Psychological!!

Thanks to everyone who gave me advice it was much appreciated.

Glad it's sorted.

Just as a note - the lift pump in my 110 really crapped out in the end and I was even smacking the tank with my hand to kick-start it for the last few days (it sounded horrible) but even after all this there was no evidence whatsoever of any 'bits' in the line or filter so it was simply just replaced along with a new filter just to be sure.

I wonder how many times the Pug dealers have got away with replacing the HP pump, and all that? :frown:
