Speedo Control Box 1929 SJ

Post by shelleyamy »

Anyone know how to test one?
Speedo's packed up,and iv,e tried switching the control box with one i had knocking about in my shed, still no joy.
I am still not convinced it's not the box, as i am not sure why the one was in the shed.

There is only power showing on my test light on one wire on the box, is this right?

Anyone have one for sale, or a spare that i could borrow,to try before i take the new Peugeot part route.
Thanks
Mike

Is this the legendary fag packet thing behind the glovebox? I seem to have lost the reciept for my one  but I'm sure it had more than three connectors on it :? Probably impossible to test it without the right gear.

Hold on, you have one knocking about your shed but you don't know why it's there?

I have had 4 D8's including a V6 coupe over 11 years, so have spent a lot of time in breakers yards, collecting stuff, just in case. I might have changed one out before, and not thrown the broken one away. Mike

I'm still trying to fnd a 2.1TD in a scrapyard, or are all of these speedo control boxes the same across the range?

Incidentally, part number 1929.SJ according to ServiceBox is £48.88 inc VAT new from Peugeot themselves.

Does anyone have a pic of said elusive box in situ behind the glovebox? I may have a trip along to the local scrapyards tomorrow lunchtime and see what I can find...

Anyone know what models came with the speedo control box? Is it ML5T gearbox models only? From what I can work out, it seems to be the 2.1TD's, the 2litre turbos and the V6's.

If you can find anyone who has some electronic servicing knowledge, get them to replace all the 1N4148 diodes, the zener diodes and both IC's on the internal PCB. Shame I can't remember the IC types, but I did buy them either from Farnell or RS when mine went wrong.

Oh, and any electrolytic capacitor, all together it will cost you a few quid.

I had a photo of my old one in situ, but I can't find it now. If you remove the passenger side footwell covering carpet, then look up behind the glovebox. The box is in the far left hand corner, tucked in between the glovebox and bulkhead.
