Hi all, not posted for a while but could do with some help or opinions. My neighbour has an electical fault on a 4 door D9(nothing new there then ) None of the windows work. They didn't work when she bought it but the winter was not the time for me to try and fix them. It is not the main switch or faulty earth etc so I suspect the BSI. I have a cunning plan but am afraid of messing up the BSI. My idea is to cut the power lead from the BSI and put power direct from the battery, to the window side . If the windows work, I have a way forward. If they don't I can reconnect the power lead and am no worse off.
Does anyone think that this is worth a try or am I likely to bugger up the BSI anyway ?
I would be grateful for any advice as my neighbour has little money to spend on this problem.
If you think it's a BSI fault do a BSI reset, search on here, follow the instructions EXACTLY. Obviosly you'll need to get the drivers window out of the way first.
I didn't think it sounded like a BSI problem, they're usually more, umm, catastrofic.
So, this feed from the BSI, I take it there's no voltage on it? I know there's some kind of timer relay on them, my D9's windows stay active for about 30 seconds after I kill it, or if I open a door (I think), I can hear the relay clicking off and it's somewhere near (in?) the BSI, something to look at?
1. Is there a clicking when you press the switches with the ignition on?
2. Have the other door switches been tried with the ignition on/
3. Have you checked the fuses?

Thanks for all these thoughts guys but I think I have tried almost everything. As it is not my car I can't work on it all the time. All the switches have been tried, the fuses have been checked. I don't know if the power feed from the BSI is live as I haven't tried it yet. My fear is if I start putting a separate poweer feed on to check motors etc, I will fry the BSI hence my idea of chopping the supply first. I can have a go at it again over Easter and was hoping for a spark of inspiration from someone who may have had a similar problem. Cheers
I wouldn't frigg up your own suply tbh, you never know what'll happen really doesn't the BSi use a lower voltage?
You could try looking under the drivers carpet footwell for signs of rusty wiring connections etc ? what about the wires as they pass through the door pillar etc??

doesn't the BSi use a lower voltage?
