electric windows

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

electric windows

Post by bigblue2 »

after curing 99% of mechanical problems i decided to move onto electrical ones, my 1st one which i'm hoping is quite simple is the passenger side window, when i brought the car there was no window regulator in it but the guy said there was a second hand one with the car just he hadn't got around to fitting it, the fitting itself was easy but for some strange reason the conector from the motor was different the new motor had connections side by side the connecter on the car were on top of each other, i made up some link wires with new spade connecters but now as soon as i connect them the motor runs tried switching wires around still runs just backwards, i'm sure i seen this problem on wheeler dealers on a 306 and it was the drivers side switch whitch was causing the problem, could anybody give me any ideas before i wade in and buy one.
the other and more scary thing was i managed to get a second hand blower motor fitted it last week and all was fine, its worked in the times i've tried it since, but today it was dead, i checked to see if it all connected still and to my horror the connecter block (2 wires) had melted  any ideas what may have caused this to happen?

2 wire connector? You don't mean the one-wire (red) connector that goes into the middle of it? That's notorious for frying itself if the connection's not immaculate :9
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

no sorry i didn't explain that vey well , its the lead that supplies powerfrom the wiring loom to the power supply to the motor there is a grey one and a green one, checked the motor out all seems fine and its just the connecter block thats melted the wiring around it seems fine, i made up a temp connection and the connecters got luke warm when running the blower flat out over a period of time but seemed ok when running steady, i realised whiletrying it there was very little air coming through so checked the pollen filter and it was solid looks like been on from new, not sure if restricting the air flow into the blower would have contributed to the over load :?
