Slow Windows

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Slow Windows

Post by eoin27 »

Is anyone else's electric windows really slow? My mothers 307 ones pop up and down very fast while my ones (especially the passenger window) take ages. Its nearly embarrassing. I know that its not the door cards being on too tight as i thought this was the problem before i took them off to test it out.

Any ideas?

Does the car have cables operated by the motor? If it does, I would take off the card, lubricate all the cables and wheels that they run over, also where the window runs up and down at either side (the rubber channels) need a good dose of WD40.Run the window up and down, spraying WD40 all over the moving parts as they move, then grease them, especially the centre frame where the window is bolted to.

There are slides inside the door that need greasing as well.

I had this problem on a 405 a few years back, it turned out to be one of the small wheels that the cable runs round had shatered and the cable was running on just the metal pin coursing a lot of friction and slowing the window down, I had to replace the hole unit but as you have a spear one you may be able to rob bits of that.

You could try spraying silicone based loobricunt along the window rubbers in the door frame, if they are dry then they 'grab' the glass as it goes up and down in the grooves. Did this on a 3-series and it worked an absolute treat.

Get your loob out for a nice gliding action ooh yes... :)
