Funny isn't it - if we just left our cars to fall to bits and breakdown we would get criticised for being useless and so on yet if we spend time preventing these things happening we also get criticised for spending too much time on 'that bloody car' :?

Her indoors' Arsetray is going in for it's annual service/mot next week and it will be £300.00 notes.....see how she likes that eh?

Reading the Grande bier thread I'm reminded our women-folk have other things to worry about, our cars keep us out of their hair! I have you lot for the back-patting anyway, no matter how shoddy the job

Speaking of which, looking at the last pic I posted I notice how crooked I made the bottom flange. Ah well, it's almost underneath the car. I just hope the weather cheers up today as promised. Yesterday it was playing "guess the season" - I woke up to rain, then it snowed, then brilliant sunshine in the early afternoon followed by a thunderstorm (and me panicking to get the D9 in the garage when I realised all that was left off the list was hail).

Damn, that sounds like Scottish weather (if you don't like it, hang around for 20 minutes)

Did you get hail?

Stone chip undercoat/primer/first coat of MOGE. The stone chip was interesting, it came out of the nozzle like lumps of snot  went on really lumpy too but I guess that's the point. The tin of MOGE isn't doing so well, it comes out all spattery too. Then I had it made up when I first got the car so maybe it's passed its sell-by date. I need to cut the paint, then move the mask up a little and give it another layer (then get it outside, up in the air, wheels off, remove all 4 arch liners, clean the sills, paint with underseal, etc etc etc  )

I got some more paint this morning, and some spray underseal because now I have to do the flange 'cos it looks right odd with new paint on it. I took the arch liners off, there's also a bung behind the front one but there's not much chance of getting anything in there because it's tight against the inner sill. Still wondering what to do about the 50cm pipe I have for the wax injection (bought some of that too), I don't seem to be able to get a pipe that size that's stiff enough to poke all the way down the sill. However, I have a plan...

Why thankyou :cheesy: It's a bit wobbly 'cos the heat & hammering warped it, it's horrible to think that if I did just bunged urethane foam in there it'd look much better

I did the underseal. The wax stuff (it's Waxoyl, smells like it, looks like and probably tastes like it too) was a pain, my idea was to get 2 meters of plastic pipe and stiffen it by taping a wire to it. I got it all the way along inside the sill but the only trouble was it didn't have the oomph to spray out the end, and that's after I stuck the tin in hot water for 20 minutes to make it a liquid instead of a solid, so I was back to the 50cm pipe and squirting it in from both ends with the underseal nozzle. Anyway, there's about half a litre in that sill now :cheesy:

Next: tyres on and it's make the other side look the same time

Just a thought - should I be posting about the stuff I'm using? It's probably pointless as it's mostly German and almost certainly unavailable there :?:

Mmm, shiny. Are you available for consultancy work, Steve?

I enjoyed welding at college a couple years ago. One of the most astonishingly frustrating things to get the hang of but once you get a feel for it it's immensely satisfying. Took gas, TIG, MIG and arc... remember thinking that arc was the proverbial sledgehammer to crack a metaphorical nut, but it's what you need for heavy stuff. TIG's lovely though, you can get some beautiful, fine fillets going on if you have a steady hand.

Course as I was welding up some pipework for my final assessment, I developed the world's worst case of hiccups... got it done eventually. No leaks!

Arch liners back, wheels on, turn the car around 'cos it's time to look at the other side. I took the plug out of the back end of the sill and peered inside with a torch, another shock was waiting for me:

Oh. My. God. It reminds me of a documentary on Titanic I saw the other week :(

Still, it's not gone through yet, so I'll fill it with jollop and get rid.

Pop quiz for ya, what's this?
