hydraulic clutch top up
can someone please tell me where the top up is for the clutch fluid? i need to bleed the system through

If it's a D8 you need a new complete system (master+slave+reservoir) as it's a sealed setup with no bleed points
If it's a D9 this has been covered a couple of times recently, use the search box at the top right of every page

its a 2000 x reg? im guessing a D9? it has a bleed nipple down in front of the gearbox, was just wondering if anyone knows where it was before i get the haynes manual i just bought

It'll use the brake fluid reservior.

definately doesnt use brake fluid, pipes dont go through it atall, i have traced it so far back but cannot see from the top, il have to wait till im in my oily clothes and have a good look underneath, or wait till haynes manual comes lol

As mjb says it's either a sealed system (with bleed nipple?) or it uses the brake fluid reservoir. I think early D9s still used the sealed system though. Got clutch problems?

The slave cylinder pipe goes to the master cylinder, and a pipe from that goes into the side of the brake fluid reservoir. The slave cylinder's bleed nipple is at the end of the cylinder, likely hidden under the battery tray. Chances are depending on engine you'll may well need to take the air filter box out to get access.

il have a good look tomorow, i can clearly see the bleed nipple at the front of the block which has the slave cylinder going into the clutch housing, and i have partially followed the pipe which comes out of it, ive followed it under the battery tray, under the ABS unit, under the brake cylinder, and under the aircon pipes at the back of the engine, then i lost sight, but will get under it tomorow if i get chance(or the weather lets me)
as for the reason im doing this, is that when i bought the car i was told it would possibly need bleeding or if that doesnt work it will be a slave cylinder, sometimes, not everytime, i change gear, when i release the clutch it doesnt come all the way back up, where i have to knock it the rest of the way with my foot, it isnt causing any problems upto now, but would rather get it done before it does start to cause a problem!!

Yeah, I have the same problem as you Jay. Already bled it but no better. Suspecting slave or master cylinder...

Slave's only about £20 from the dealers - actually cheaper than factors - and easy to change.
