Aux belt

hi all my air con pumps just packed up - the pulleys just about come off - what i need to know is that as i am a little short of cash this month then would a non - air con aux belt fit round the rest of the pulleys ok if i were to discard the air con pump?
the cars a s reg 1998 1.9 diesel d8

From what I see on Autodata, the air con type and non-aircon type have different pulley arrangements, the aircon type has more pulleys, even if the aircon was disconnected.They are also in different places, ie the alternator and powers steering pump are located differently.

If I were you, I would get some string and wind it around the pulleys that are left without the aircon pulley, going round the alternator and power steering, then around the tensioner, then around the crank pulley, over the guide pulley....measure the length and get one a similar length from a factor, not forgetting the belt width, eg, 5pk, 6pk etc.
