Dont feel silly.
Its something you wanted to find out about.

At the end of the day it is all about personal preference. If these items did serious damage then Im sure they wouldnt be allowed to be sold. Its more the damage they could potentially do over a long period of time. I have had a green enclosed on my saxo for about 4 years of hard track use and when I rebuilt the engine last there was no noticable issues or pitting when the engine was apart.
Every car will react differently to 'perfomance' mods aswell.

Well put munfred

Also consider this: Why don't 300+bhp high performance cars (Subaru, Mitsubishi, BMW, Merc, Aston, Porsche...) come with these "performance" filters or induction kits, instead coming with just bigger versions of the things that the 406 rolled off the production line with?
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
