V6 D9's?
Hello,
Looking to see if I can find a 406 saloon with a V6 engine. I don't want an estate, as I prefer the look of the saloon, and while I'd love a coupe, I need the 4-door car.
While I know the D8 had a V6 version, I prefer the look of the D9.
Was there ever a D9 V6? I can't find any on the for-sale sites anywhere (eBay, AutoTrader, CarFinderScotland).
If there wasn't, I know that Ecosse Peugeot do a V6 upgrade kit, but it's really expensive (£5,500), and will almost certainly cause all sorts of insurance-related hassles that (at that price) doesn't seem worth it. Is there anywhere else anyone knows of that would do such an upgrade at a considerably lower cost?
Cheers
Graeme

Re: V6 D9's?
The D9 V6 came in both 194bhp ES9J4 and 210bhp ES9J4S flavours from 1999 through to 1994, with the ES9J4S coming in early 2001.
A quick search on ebay comes up with 2 hideously overpriced examples:

Re: V6 D9's?
Thanks; I had thought they did them, but I couldn't see any. Maybe it's because I was looking for ones within 150 miles of my postcode.
What should I expect to pay for a V6 D9 if these were hideously overpriced? £1,500 to £2,000 was roughly what I would have expected, as I got my low-mileage 1.8 D9 for £1850 (minus a couple hundred for my old Mk.1 Clio).

Re: V6 D9's?
Low mileage ain't all it's cracked up to be. If you consider the age, 30k on the clock it means the car's been sat around rotting for considerable time, or used on lots of short runs which ain't good for it either. Best mileage is about 80k with a recent cambelt change. I'd pay up to about £1500 for an 03 exec/glx in *mint* condition at 80k with a year's t&thighlander wrote:What should I expect to pay for a V6 D9 if these were hideously overpriced? £1,500 to £2,000 was roughly what I would have expected, as I got my low-mileage 1.8 D9 for £1850 (minus a couple hundred for my old Mk.1 Clio).
Remember that on V6s registered on or after 01 March 2001, you'll be raped on the tax

Re: V6 D9's?
Couple of comments correcting errors above
- the 210 hp V6 was introduced in early 2000. Mine was registered in April 2000.
- Car tax is £215 annually for any V6's registered after March 2001 and before 2006. The much talked about retrospective tax hike was scrapped. From the government site "Band K includes cars that have a CO2 figure over 225g/km but were registered before 23 March 2006"

Re: V6 D9's?
Thankyou very much all for the info; I am positively salivating at the idea of having a V6 while still keeping the saloon body.
Have been scouring AutoTrader, eBay and CarFinderScotland looking for one nearby that isn't utterly shafted or overly expensive; no luck so far, but it's a worthy goal IMHO. Fed up of poncy buggers in their Audis and BMWs overtaking me up hills
And I love the noise a V6 makes - music to my ears!

Re: V6 D9's?
Eh? I've just spent some time looking it up and it seems I was wrong - the ES9J4S was apparently launched September 2000! I'm intrigued now - what's your VIN?k_f wrote:- the 210 hp V6 was introduced in early 2000. Mine was registered in April 2000.
Nice! But I wouldn't trust those expletives to keep it that way- Car tax is £215 annually for any V6's registered after March 2001 and before 2006.
