Car Tax Question???

Post by TonyW »

I'm going to look at a 406 Estate this weekend but was just wondering about taxing it. If I was to buy her she doesn't have any tax and although the dealer has offered to go and get the tax for me (at my expense of course!) if I buy it before the first of the month will I lose the whole of April's worth and have to tax for the month but only get a few days use out of it?

Or is there a cut off date towards the end of April after which I can buy tax as from May 1st, therefore getting a few days for 'free'??? (Seems unlikely but you never know!)

Stupid question I know but if I'm gonna be spending £100+ quid on tax I want it to be for 6 months and not 5!!!

Cheers all :)

The simple answer is yes, you will lose a whole month if you tax it before the first of May.

I bought a Nissan Micra in November, taxed it in November and lost a full month.

The only exception is if you use the reminder form, then you lose nothing as you are allowed to tax it up to 10 days early or whatever date they tell you on the form.

1st of the month is when you will be able to get the full month out of it.

My first Motah was a Micra. I remember driving my dads 406 when i had the micra. The 406 was like a space rocket in comparison. Now it just feels normal.

HaHaHa....yeah, I have a 16 year old son that will want a motor next year.

I did a job for a customer, he had been quoted £500 quid to fix a running fault (air flow meter is built into throttle body and is expensive), the engine was running sick and ticking over badly, I said I couldn't be sure whether the airflow meter was faulty or not, the chap asked me if I wanted to buy it cheap in case the fault was the expensive option....to cut to the chase, the fuel filter was changed, injection cleaner pumped into it before it was fitted, ran the car up the motorway, bingo! Fault cured! Total cost £8, I paid £400 for the car, car is worth about a grand :D
