Aerial attaching

Can't find reference to this but i am sure loads of you will have done attached an aerial to D9.

as I was paying for my carwash voucher the guy at the till said to take off my aerial. I said I never bother. He said oh it just unscrews. End of conversation.

So I am waiting my turn and for some reason, (I am a divtwat?), I decide to see it it comes off. It does....but won't go back on. The base it screws into appears to sit free between roof and er whatever is below it.... So it needs to be raised in order for the aerial to screw into it but that seems impossible from outside. Do I have to take the lights off inside first? Please dont tell me that you dont need to take off the aerial before car wash, i already knew that!!

Not sure i fully understand you......did it break off in the carwash or did you unscrew it?

If you did unscrew it, then all you need to do is screw it back in. If you need to raise the base to attach it, use a thin screwdriver or a skewer and stick it in to lever it upwards.

I should have looked at it first before posting. It was simple enough. I removed the large light fitting from the inside ceiling, took out 2 screws holding the light console and was able to access the base. Eoin the aerial screws into a base but the base needs to be held in position otherwise the aerial thread won't reach it so it cant simply be screwed back on. Anyway all done!

That does sound a bit odd, I've always taken the aerials off when going to the carwash, the whip bit unscrews from the base bit then screws straight back in after... Don't really understand why you need to be fiddling about inside the car, sounds like something's broken to me. Did you get any water in through the aerial mount at the car wash?

not too much water. but i think the whip bit is either fused or doesn't come off the base in my case. I unscrewed base and all, anyway its all back together now...

Ah that explains it. There's been lots of problems on here of water leaking in around the aerial base so if it's OK now and not leaking I wouldn't touch it again

Might be worth getting yourself another aerial from a breaker. You don't want to be removing the entire lot to go through a carwash, you'll be giving the headlining a good soaking!
As the other guys mentioned the whip does indeed unscrew from the base. See if you can persuade it with a couple of pairs of pliers
