Can you disconnect EGR on HDI 90?

Post by landymad »

Hi All

Can you disconnect the EGR on a HDI 90 (Siemens MY 2002)?

Plan to have a look and see if I can replace one of the gaskets in the pipework with a bit of tin so blocking the exhaust gas but leaving everything else working.

Anyone done it any other ways?

Cheers

I believe a 10p piece is a popular tool for blocking the EGR :)

The EGR is vacuum operated, you can just disconnect & plug the vacuum pipe at the solenoid valve.
Assuming your EGR isn't leaking, that should take care of it.
I've never tried it personally, but can't see why it wouldn't work.
On cars with Bosch systems the ECU will report a fault if you disconnect the solenoid valve electrically, or if the solenoid supply is missing, but it can't tell if the actual valve is working or not AFAIK.
Don't know about Siemens, but if it's like their industrial stuff, order a new one with before 10:00 delivery & it'll still be obsolete before you get it.....

All i can say is my HDi 90 is smoking big time and if i could stop it in some way, i would. Am i right in thinking that EGR blocking doesn't affect smoke output?

I think the best way to go would be to remove and clean the EGR.
I was hoping for a "how to" in the Wiki but I think I forgot about asking for it

I remember you were saying that before. But when people say EGR, i don't know if they are referring to the actual valve or the L pipe coming from the manifold. I took off the L pipe and cleaned most of the gunk. When it went back on - No difference.Still smokes like a motherf***er
