Indicator Coming On By Itself

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Indicator Coming On By Itself

Post by averagejo »

guys,

as im driving along the drivers side indicator keeps coming on (dash light aswell as exterior lights) while im driving without the switch being engaged to the upwards position

im guessing this is going to be just a fault in the stalk unit i havent really had time to look at my haynes yet but is removal/replacement straight forward? is cleaning an option?

oh, are D8/D9's the same?

thanks!

dan

searching proves that this problem isnt uncommon

EDIT: i've got my better half to try lowering and raising the steering wheel which may have made it better but will find out later after she drives home.

If it gets to the point where a quick fiddle with the stalk won't switch it off, then i suggest buying a used one for £20 or so on fleabay!

Could be worth whipping the thing out and cleaning it out/WD40 etc.. I'm sure someone else had this and found it to be caked in dust/fluff etc. impeding it's correct action.

This is exactly what happenend to mine the day before the MOT. Mine had the same stalk as yours. Got a new one from Peugeot for about £45 and it is a very easy 20 min job to change it. You do not need to take off the steering wheel with this type.

Easy job to replace. Remove the bottom shroud, release the column lock & pull the steering wheel out as far as it will go.
The stalk is held in with 2 torx screws and it just slides out.
