I'm afraid you'll have to either pay up or get an aftermarket stereo. Could try phoning around a few Peugeot dealers though, some of them might charge a bit less
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

1 hours labour? more like 5 minutes. If you walk in there acting like you know that its a piece of piss job, they surely won't charge you that much. What a rip off.

Hi (1st post for me)

Had same issue, my 406 came with a Clarion CD/radio - radio fine, CD not working. Found an original Clarion radio/cass on eBay for £25, and saved some due to it being local & being able to pick up.

Couldn't find any local Audio people who had the right computer gear, so it seemed Peugeot dealers only.

Was amazed at the price variation - anyway, got it done at the one furthest of the 3 (still only 10 miles), £28.80 plus vat = £33.12. Pooles Peugeot in Gosport (no good to you I appreciate).

Basically saying (if you haven't already) - ring round as many as poss within your "range" - could save yourself a packet, as £82.50 sounds extornionate...

(BTW, they had told me needed 2 days notice, and would be half-hour, I sat in service reception with the car out front, and didn't have time to drink my coffee out the machine - took them less than 10 minutes).
