Peugeot main "stealer" parts prices !!!!!!!!

Post by lofty »

Being a perfectionist (perhaps that word and owning a pug shouldn't go well together?), i get annoyed everytime i clean my car because all 4 plastic OE 15" wheel trims have minor marks on them, caused by the pervious owners. Not really noticable from a few yards away, but niggling me because i know!

I rang my local Pug dealer who i have a trade account with, and got a price for some replacements. Now in the past i have paid on average about £15 per wheel trim from other manufacturers parts depatments, so needless to say my guts had a churn when he quoted me £47 + VAT PER wheel trim, and that was with 10% trade discount!

Over £200 for a set of plastic wheel trims...... WTF? Even the parts guy was laughing, and he double checked the price to make sure it was correct.... and it was!

Needless to say, i declined his kind offer and will revert to eGay to try and find the odd new one when they turn up... or look for a set of 15" GLX alloys and have them refurbed?

Anyone else had horrific parts prices quoted to them?

Matt

Well TBH, i can see why they are pricing them like that. The 406 is not a current car and parts for it are much less in demand than before. They are probably producing many of these parts with relatively small margins and are making the money from labour. I think that they upped the price because they never sell and probably they don't really need to sell any more.

I'd imagine a set of 15" wheel trims for a 207 or a 308 would be much cheaper and look smarter too. I'd check that out.

You could always try liberating a new set from CPA.

(car park acessories) :supafrisk:

I'd save up for a set of Alloys and spend long summer nights lovingly refurbishing them 8) just get the same size ones so you can re-use your own tyres.

Been there, some of the Pug parts prices are in La-La Land. I dunno if it applies to the factors there but I can get quite a few original parts through the one my mates run a great deal cheaper than from Pug themselves (and then there's my staff discount 8) ) - last year I got some tail lights for the '8 off Ebay, they weren't anything like as expensive as Pug but with the postage and the new bluddy tax, it turns out I could have got new ones for much less here (I "didn't ask" :frown: )

My winter tyres are on steelies, I'd love to get some pukka Pug trims for them but I've got better things to spend money on (e.g. food), so they're just black. I am tempted, however, to get some yellow paint and do them a la crash test dummy Image

I'm on the hunt now for a tidy set of 15" alloys (the sort fitted to the D9 GLX), that way, like someones said, i can keep my existing new tyres and make the car look better at the same time.

Also on the hunt for the coresponding wheel bolts!

Remember; you don't necessarily have to use 406 alloys; I'm using a set from a 307 Rapier on my 406.

I reckon they look pretty sweet 8)

Are the 307 alloys as wide as the 406 ones? 195mm??

Uh ...

Dunno

But they fit, and I haven't died in a horrible wrong-wheel-related accident (yet), so I'm guessing I'm OK ...

Got a right result off eGay the other night. A guy in Scotland had a brand new set of 4 x OE pug 406 wheel trims, exactly the same as mine, and i won the set for £27.80 delivered!

Happy as larry. I'll get some pics up when ive painted the steel wheels (need tidying up and painting satin black) and fitted them.

Its not very often fleaBay comes up trumps but this time it did!

This isn't about Peugeot main dealer parts prices, but I've had a bizarre experience with parts pricing......

My fleet customer with a fleet of Nissan Primastar vans had a damaged rear light unit and plastic surround, ordered the lamp unit... £88 +vat, (the plastic surround out of stock).

Fitted the light unit (which fits into the plastic surround) because they needed the van and had no right rear lights.....today, the plastic surround arrived, guess what? The plastic surround comes complete with the light unit and costs £53.76 + vat.

Crazy :? :?
