Is £450 not toomuch for clutch for 406 HDi

Been quoted 5 different prices and none less than £450. If its silly question i am sorry as never had deal wit clutch issue before. See adverts for other cars for 100 quid so assumed same for 406 HDi. Curious thing is remember reading somewhere that though garages always fit new flywheel its not always necessary to do so.

Anyone with any ideas. £450 is almost what the the car is worth for crying out loud

Car is 406 HDi 110 year 2000

You'll be surprised at how much 406s HDis still fetch...

Does that price include a flywheel change as well or just the clutch?

The hdi110 and hdi136 use a dual-mass flywheel which I think the general consensus is that they should be changed with the clutch as it would be a false economy not to do the job (like putting a new water pump in with a cambelt change)

The reason for the expense is that with the 406 (the physically bigger engines at least), there's a lot of work needs doing to get at the clutch - pulling the driveshafts out and dropping the gearbox out of the way, so it's not a quick job

Thanks for replies guys but Mjb what could happen if only change the clutch not the flywheel. Thar still drives fine except wen pulling away little slow and when tying to balance on an incline the biting point seems take longer to reach.


Can i not take a chance and get away with it. Car only done 120 000 miles :P
