Hi, my name's Dan, I've recently got myself a Peugeot 406 and I'm really interested in getting in fixed up.
Basically it's just sat outside my house for about 3-5 years, it was my Dad's but he gave it to me because he got a new car.
As wierd as it may seem, I'm only 14, and I'm probably not going to be driving it any time soon but it's my little ''project'' car. lol
Please take me seriously, I'm not the average 14 year old chav, I'm just using it to brush up on engine knowledge and stuff like that, as I'm going to college sometime next year, in Mechanics.

There's bin one thing that's really REALLY bugging me!
Where the battery has bin disconnected so many times, the radio is asking for the security code but I cannot find it! Haha, is there any way some one could help? lol thanks guys! :D

Hi Dan, welcome.

You could try ringing your local dealer with your vin number and ask if they could tell you the radio code, they may ask for payment or not be able to tell you.

The other option is to take out the radio and take it to a car audio shop and ask them to recode it (last time I took one for coding, it cost me £15 plus vat).

Usually I'd be saying "either buy a stereo with a code off ebay, or slap in an aftermarket one", but since you're not driving it, I'd suggest a mains powered stereo or an mp3 player :lol:

Check over the car's handbook, service history book and the stereo instructions. The code's usually scribbled somewhere on one of those. Also, try pulling the stereo out. You may find the code written on it my a past owner/mechanic

Welcome along, Dan!

Try checking out the manuals, handbooks, warranty information - sometimes, previous owners will write the code down on a booklet that just sits in the glove box. Of course, I'm assuming your dad wasn't the original owner.

I would also guess that your 406 is equipped with a tape player - in which case, I'd guess you won't really be wanting it anyway. You can get some nice low-cost in-car CD players these days, and therefore the code for that tape deck shouldn't really be necessary.

Hi there Dan, is it the original radio or something different? There's always the possibility someone's actually written it on the stereo (daft but it happens :roll: )

He didn't say what trim level the car is. It could have a changer in the boot :cheesy:

It's got 6 CD disc changer, thanks guys, I think I'll just put a new stereo in, it shouldn't cost too much hopefully!
Also it's an LX, forgot to mention, it was a great car when my Dad had it on the road, he loved it!

So it's not a stock changer? God knows an LX doesn't come with one :(

BTW, does the stock changer read CD-Rs? The one in her indoors' Omega doesn't...

The changer could be specified as an option on lower specced 406s, and the Philips one won't read CDRs.

The 6 CD changer is in the boot, seriously it's an LX aswell.

If it's been standing for a while, it'll probably take that long to get it into a drivable condition, especially without proper income :oops: :lol:

Guess the original owner didn't want one then. According to the docs, the Green Dream was a company run around for a lino factory in Chisick :|

Haha, it will take some time to get on the road again, but I'm not planning on driving it any time soon! Haha!

Timing belt needs doing, front discs and pads, new break pipes need doing, and a new back window. (It got smashed the other week by some lowlifes.)

Oh and hub-caps, some low life also stole them. :(
